Lukwato means "marriage" in Tonga, the language of my parents. In Livingstone where I live, a wedding is a wonderful occassion and everyone in the wedding party dresses in beautiful clothes and some of them learn difficult dances to perform for the guests and there is music and drumming in many parts of the ceremony. My older sister, Tumelo, had just been to a cousin's marriage ceremony the day before I was born. She was so happy at that wedding that she begged my mother to name me Lukwato, Marriage, when I was born the next day. So that became my name.
